How to Effectively and Efficiently Clean Your Rental Equipment

January 25, 2022

Your heavy equipment works hard, taking on a variety of projects. During this work your equipment will develop a good amount of dirt, grease, grime, tar, and more. To ensure that everything is ready for your next client, here are a few tips to help you clean your heavy rental equipment more efficiently.

Cleaning Benefits

An efficient cleaning stems from a consistent cleaning routine. Built-up dirt can add friction to the moving parts of your heavy equipment, putting more strain on the machine than it can handle. Not only does regular cleaning keep your equipment functioning properly, but it also extends the lifespan. Dirty machines wear much faster than equipment that’s regularly washed, also making it much easier to clean.

Products Required to Wash Heavy Equipment

Properly washing heavy equipment is a big job. It requires technical knowledge of effectively getting rid of buildup and protecting your equipment for its next use. There are tricks to the trade that turn a large undertaking into a step-by-step procedure making the best use of time and ensuring the process is efficient.

1. PPE

Personal protection equipment is the first product to consider when starting a machinery washing job. Safety is paramount at every construction company. Whether it’s on the construction site or back at the shop and yard, personal safety must be taken seriously. Construction machinery and designated cleaning equipment are hazardous so it’s important that your employees are protected by wearing full-length cover-all’s, protective footwear, gloves, and face and eye protection.

2. Pressure Washing

Pressure washers and water cannons are mandatory when it comes to cleaning construction equipment. There is no better way to remove grease and grime than by hitting it with high-pressure water. The force of concentrated water gets into tight places like hinges and seams that are impossible to reach with hand brushing.

3. Wash Pads

There’s no substitute for using a professionally designed and built wash pad. Properly constructed wash pads and racks are built with water containment and recycling systems. To start with, the pad should be self-contained and enclosed to prevent wash water and all its pollutants from escaping into the environment. Dirt, grease, and other contaminants are

knocked free and collect inside sumps. Excess water is captured and recycled in a contained system, filtering it back to workable greywater where it’s continually reused. This is called a closed loop wash operation or wash rack.

4. Industrial Strength Cleaners

Water alone is often not sufficient in dislodging dirt, grease, tar, paint, or other contaminants. Every equipment wash system employs a degreasing solution. This depends greatly on the type of equipment being cleaned and what site conditions it was operated in. Bitu-Ox™ was formulated with this in mind. Our highly concentrated, industrial strength cleaners were created to be used on all types of machinery to remove a multitude of messes and are power washer safe to deliver a superior clean.  With the help of Bitu-Ox™ you can ensure that your machines and equipment will remain free of tar, rust, and everything in between to guarantee that it’s ready for its next project.
